Jeez, this year is going by so fast. It feels like yesterday that we were celebrating new years eve. This year I decided to try out monthly themes in order to pursue my goals this year.
The thing with goal setting is that they should be within your reach. You do it for yourself, it is a personal journey. When you set your goals too low you won’t be challenged enough but if you set your goals too high you will be overwhelmed.
I got overwhelmed. And it made me rather sad than happy, which is of course the opposite of what I’m trying to reach. Not so slow living. While I was looking over my previous month I saw that most of my goals were habits I wanted to cultivate. However, to make a new habit your own takes time and therefore it is not that realistic to try out
So for the rest of this month, I’m going to focus on one goal: I’m going to eat vegetarian at least three times a week.
This might seem as an easy goal to some, but Michiel and I eat meat quite often. I want to eat less meat because of two main reasons. In a random order: because of the cruel meat industry and the ways we treat animals, and because of the impact agriculture has on our environment.
For this month I’m going to count fish as vegetarian as well (I think it’s called pescetarianism). I know fish is also a nightmare for our environment and I also think the welfare of fish is no better than other animals, but I decided to start this experiment by elimination only meat. This way, we’ll reduce the desire for meat to a minimum.
A vegetarian diet is quite in line with the minimalist lifestyle. Minimalism is about caring about the things that we value. For me that’s also the world that we live in (and I think for many others as well). So less harm to the planet and less animal cruelty but rather choose to live life with purpose (how poetic).
Do you have any vegetarian-tips for me? Or super nice recipes?
